Princess, Fathom to Support the Caribbean with Spring Departures
In an effort to support communities affected by the 2017 hurricanes in the Caribbean, and after a sold-out inaugural group on the upcoming Jan. 20 Crown Princess sailing, Princess Cruises and Fathom Travel are adding two spring departures.
The Caribbean is open for business, but these cruises allow travelers to directly assist those who have been impacted by the hurricanes.
The newly scheduled dates are March 18 on Regal Princess and May 26 on Caribbean Princess.
The sailings include experienced small group leaders, impact guides, shipboard events and activities, and opportunities on shore to make a difference.
Highlights of the inaugural eight-day Crown Princess cruise that visits Antiqua, St. Maarten, St. Thomas and Amber Cove include an in-depth immersion into island life, a connection with local communities, a donation drop and community care, with optional activities including rebuilding, beach clean-up, reforestation and therapy through arts.
At St. Thomas the Princess/Fathom group will deliver donations of more than 2,000 items for young families working with and supporting the St. Thomas Department of Health, Maternal and Child Health and St. Thomas Boys & Girls Club with significant help from Baby Zone NYC and Aerostream in Miami.
At St. Maarten the group will lend a hand in tourism association efforts involving the St. Maarten Nature Foundation and The National Institute of Arts.
The group's visit to the Dominican Republic will be focused on rebuilding an entire community by repairing a school and various homes that were damaged in past hurricane seasons. Partners include Caritas Internationalis (a relief development and social service organization), the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Environment and Civil Defense.
Fathom Travel has been raising donations for Loma de la Bestia at youcaring.org. Macorix House of Rum and Wild Play, both Dominican companies, have been significant donors for the cause and many individual donors have helped, as well.
Fathom is still accepting donations for this cause. All proceeds will go directly to rebuilding the Loma de la Bestia community in Puerto Plata.
