Curacao Scores Double-Digit Growth in U.S. Travelers
Curacao's 2018 tourism numbers through May reflected an 11% growth in U.S. stayover arrivals, topping the 29,000 mark. The next biggest increases were 10% from Dutch visitors and 7% from Canadian visitors.
The positive figures out of the U.S. are the effect of the second weekly flight out of Charlotte and larger equipment on American Airlines' daily flight out of Miami, according to the Curacao Tourism Board.
The direct impact of the visitor increases was $262.5 million generated for the local economy, with North America accounting for $69.2 million, European visitors $123 million and the balance from visitors from South America, the Caribbean and other regions.
Helping to pump up the summer season arrival count will be the Curacao North Sea Jazz Festival Aug. 30-Sept. 1 with a lineup that includes international headliners including Jason Derulo, Christina Aguilera, Stine & Shaggy, Sean Paul and Patti Labelle.
