W Hong Kong Signals W Hotels’ Entry into China

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. announced the landmark entry of W Hotels into China with the grand opening of W Hong Kong in the West Kowloon district. The hotel has 393 guest rooms, including 42 suites. The hotel also introduces Asia’s first Bliss Spa.

Additional features include two signature restaurants; the city’s most highly elevated hotel swimming pool; a 73rd-floor modern fitness facility; 8,200 square feet of convertible, state-of-the-art meeting and event space; and the quintessential W lounge experience.

Offering unobstructed views of Hong Kong’s skyline, W Hong Kong serves as the centerpiece in the new 92-story Cullinan complex, just minutes from the galleries in Soho and Canton Road’s luxury retail center. W Hong Kong marks the W brand’s third property in Asia.

Accor Aims to Double its Presence in Southern China

Accor is targeting the Pearl River Delta, aiming to double its hotel presence in China´s southern economic power-zone. At the start of 2006, Accor operated seven hotels in the Pearl River Delta –in Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Dongguan.

By 2008 this is likely to increase to at least a dozen establishments, with major new Sofitel, Novotel and Ibis projects under development at that time.

Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative Deadline Approaches

The State Department is recommending that travelers apply now for travel documents that will be required at all land or sea border entry points as of June 1, 2009. On that date, under the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI), U.S. citizens will be required to present a government-approved document that denotes both citizenship and identity when entering the United States.
