Marriott Unveils Caribbean Hurricane Interruption Policy

Thursday, 03/07/2008

Hurricane season has begun and Marriott International is offering its Caribbean Travel Interruption Policy that protects both groups and individual travelers in the event of a hurricane.

Since July 2006, Marriott’s Caribbean Travel Interruption Policy has reassured guests visiting participating resorts in the Caribbean and Mexico given the following hurricane-related storm scenarios. Marriott’s Caribbean Travel Interruption Policy applies to a hurricane as defined and validated by the U.S. National Weather Service’s National Hurricane Center.

Marriott customers in the Caribbean will get a choice of full refund for interrupted travel reservations. Guests holding a confirmed reservation with a nonrefundable deposit who are unable to travel to the Caribbean or Mexico where they hold a reservation, due to an airport or the hotel closure related to the particular hurricane event at the identified resort will receive a full refund of their deposit and the ability to re-book for a future date.

Another option included complimentary return stay for interrupted vacations. Guests who are registered at a participating Caribbean or Mexico resort whose stay is interrupted by a hurricane which directly hits the property –as defined and validated by the U.S. National Weather Service- will receive a certificate for a complimentary three-night return stay (room and tax only) valid for two years from their original travel dates, including room and room tax.

The third choice is relocation assistance or a replacement meeting for business travelers. If a scheduled meeting at a participating resort is interrupted, or the ability to travel to the resort for the meeting is affected, at Marriott’s discretion, the meeting planner/group will be offered a replacement meeting at the same resort within one year (subject to availability).
