Excelencias Group Hands Over Awards

Within the framework of FITCuba 2008, the Excelencias Group handed over the 2008 Excelencias Award to the Oasis Group in the category of Fastest Growing Hotel Rooms in the Caribbean. The company’s CEO Francisco Gimena accepted the award from the hands of Excelencias Group President Jose Carlos de Santiago in a ceremony held at the Panorama Hotel in Havana.

The Excelencias Group has handed over a number of other awards through this year to several tourism institutions and authorities attending different travel tradeshows around the world, such as Spain’s FITUR, Milan’s BIT and Berlin’s ITB.

The Excelencias Award also went to Cuba’s Tourism Ministry in recognition to its adequate tourism-oriented use of architectural heritage, as well as to the City Historian’s Office for the preservation and conservation of heritage values in Old Havana.
Similar trophies were given to the Mexican state of Jalisco for the preservation of the purest Mexican traditions, and the Aruba Tourism Authority and Tourism Ministry for being the safest Caribbean island.
Other recognitions were presented to the Brazil Tourism Ministry for the development and conservation of the country’s northeast coast; to the Dominican Republic’s Tourism Department for the implementation of its beach recovery plan; to the Globalia Group for being the fastest-growing hotel chain in the Caribbean, and the Made in Spain agency for its campaign in favor of the Dominican Republic’s Tourism Department.

Excelencias Group Presented Awards during ITB Berlin 2008

As part of its activities within the framework of the International Tourism Fair in Berlin (ITB 2008), the Excelencias Group followed up on a process the company kicked off earlier this year at Madrid’s FITUR and handed over the remaining 2008 Excelencias Awards. These recognitions were doled out on a yearly basis among institutions, governments and personalities that help foster the advance of the travel industry in Latin America and the Caribbean.
