Tourism minister Francisco Javier Garcia asked the Environment Ministry (Semarena) and the Senate to expedite the proceedings necessary to materialize the hot springs tourism complex at Canoa, Barahona (south), a project expected to have a significant socioeconomic impact in that impoverished region.
The Tourism minister asked for the evaluation of the corresponding environmental impact studies, as well as the approval of the project, in missives to Environment minister Jaime David Fernandez Mirabal and Senate president Reinaldo Pared.
Garcia stresses the project will be located “in a tourism region which to date has yet to reach the degree of desired development,” for which it will be a great advance for the zone and the Dominican Republic as a whole.
