Turks and Caicos Lures 14,000 Canadian Tourists Every Year

Turks and Caicos, a Caribbean travel destination that only a few travelers go to, is packed with attractions of all kind and Canadian sunbathers know it too well. Rosemary Wilson, of the Turks & Caicos Tourism Office in Toronto, was very active last week promoting the islands´ allures at the Travel & Leisure Show that ended last Sunday.

Mrs. Wilson told Caribbean News Digital that Turks and Caicos is a sought-after spot among Canadian trippers. Even back in the 1970s and 80s, word had it the islands were going to be annexed to Canada. "This rumor brought scores of visitors and investors from that country," she says.

Sandals continues to be the hotel chain that offers all-inclusive packages in the Caribbean that are different to its competitors. For Gary Sadler, Sandals´ marketing and sales manager, that´s one of the reasons that made the Jamaica-based company come to the Toronto Star Travel and Leisure Show.

The hotel chain is a resort chain designed for couples, family travelers and single people who visit Jamaica. Nonetheless, the company offers similar conveniences in Turks and Caicos, Santa Lucia and other neighboring Caribbean states.

For Carolina Allison, a senior executive at Signature Vacations, a division of First Choice Canada, her company has always boasted one of the biggest assortments of all-inclusive resorts money can buy along the Atlantic shoreline, and “that –she says- has been the name of the game.”

This assertion explains away Canadian travelers´ determination to put this option high on their list of vacation choices. “Canada is a very cold country most of the year, so this area is a good alternative for winter birds,” Mr. Allison notes.

Cubana de Aviacion (CA), Cuba´s top air carrier, is doing great in Canada, especially in the southwestern part of the country where, according to Juan Vidal, CA general manager in Ontario, "the future is brighter than ever before."

CA flexed its muscles at the Toronto Star Travel & Leisure Show that came to a close Sunday. "We wanted to promote a number of flights here to raise Cubana´s presence in this country which, as a matter of fact, is providing fifteen weekly flights between the two nations right now."
