St. Maarten Emerges Unscathed After Passage of Hurricane Omar | | Monday, 20/10/2008 | The Government of St. Maarten reports that Hurricane Omar, a Category Three storm when it passed St. Maarten in the early morning hours of Thursday, October 16, 2008, did not result in any deaths or significant damages to its infrastructure or hotel sector. The Government of St. Maarten also reports that hotels are fully operational and functioning normally, as well as are the established tourist sites, attractions and restaurants. |

Island of Providenciales in Turks & Caicos Reopens for Tourism | | Monday, 15/09/2008 | Providenciales in Turks and Caicos, has reopened for business after Hurricane Ike caused minor cosmetic and landscaping damage. While the southern cays of Grand Turk, Salt Cay and South Caicos were hit the hardest at a reported 80 percent damage to homes and businesses, this is not the case for Providenciales. Flights will resume Monday, September 15. Ocean Club Resorts was closed during the storm for scheduled annual renovations and will now re-open October 24. |
