The Latin Caribbean’s “Slave Route” Presented in Havana

A multimedia pieced together by the UNESCO offices in Havana and Port-au-Prince and entitled “The Slave Route” was officially launched on March 13 in a ceremony organized by UNESCO’s Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean and the House of Africa attached to the Havana Historian Office.

New Seven Wonders of the World Chosen

Monuments in three Latin American countries were named among the new seven wonders of the world last week. Brazil’s Statue of Christ Redeemer, Peru’s Machu Picchu, and Mexico’s Chichen Itza pyramid were chosen along with the Great Wall of China, Jordan’s Petra, the Colosseum in Rome and India’s Taj Mahal.

Representatives from nine places designated as “creative cities” by the U.N. Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) met in Santa Fe in late October to brainstorm about “creative tourism,” according to the Santa Fe New Mexican newspaper.

Santa Fe, recognized as a folk art destination, is the only U.S. city on the UNESCO list.
