NTA is the industry’s premier packaged travel association made up of more than 3,000 members from around the globe.

 

Priceline Names Head of Worldwide Strategy, Planning

Priceline.com Inc. has appointed its former chief financial officer Robert J. Mylod Jr. as vice chairman and head of worldwide strategy and planning. Mr. Mylod joined priceline.com in 1999 and was appointed CFO in November 2000.

 

Dominica’s Fort Young Hotel Names Ruud Val Baal as GM

Dominica’s Fort Young Hotel named Ruud van Baal its new general manager. Van Baal operated three well-known properties on the island of Bonaire as the managing director. Prior to his hotel experience, Mr. van Baal was employed by Holland America Cruise Line.

 

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. Names Managing Director for Brazil Operations

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. has selected Brazilian cruise industry veteran Ricardo Amaral as managing director of its operations in Brazil. In the newly created position, Mr. Amaral will oversee all commercial and operational activities for three of the company's brands, Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Cruises. Mr. Amaral will assume his new position in January.

The Los Cabos Convention & Visitors Bureau announced the results of its 2009 elections and committee appointments. Gonzalo Franyutti De La Parra has been elected for a second term as president of the Los Cabos Convention & Visitors Bureau for 2009. Franyutti is also the general manager of Chileno Bay Club.

Jamaica Names John Lynch as Director of Tourism

Jamaica Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett announced the appointment of John Lynch as director of tourism at the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), effective Dec. 1, 2008. According to Bartlett, the current environment dictates that quick and decisive action be taken to fill the post of director of tourism, which became vacant following Basil Smith’s decision to not renew his contract in October.

Travel Agents to Be in Higher Demand in 2009

Peter Yesawich, president and CEO of Ypartnership, expects more consumers to turn to travel agents when planning their trips in 2009. Meanwhile, research conducted by Ypartnership states that the travel intentions of Americans remain strong as 71 percent of active travel households are planning at least one overnight trip during the next six months –the same amount as one year ago.
